Brook has been designed primarily with the pole angler in mind and has been stocked heavily with numerous species to ensure a truly mixed bag of fish is possible. The lake has thirty pegs and features seven islands that can be reached from virtually all of the pegs with just 12m of pole.
The islands and margins have been heavily planted with Iris and sedge to give plenty of cover for the fish encouraging the angler who loves to fish to features.
The venue can throw up mixed bags of Barbel, Chub, Tench, Carp and Bream and when the float dips you will never know what it will be next.
The lake has a large head of Barbel to 5lb+ that have been grown on at the fishery from fry. These Barbel respond well to large quantities of worm, maggot or caster or to bigger baits such as meat or paste in the Summer.
A typical mixed bag of Brook Barbel, Tench, Chub and Carp caught on meat and pellet.
The lake also has a large head of Chub grown on from fry on site and the size of these fish varies from around 8oz up to 3lb+ with plenty of 2lb fish in the venue. The chub love to find some cover and respond best to the wriggly baits such as worm, maggot or caster.
The lake has plenty of Tench which are typically in the 1lb to 2lb range with some better specimens to over 4lb+. They respond best to worm and caster but will always show up in mixed bags on meat, pellet and corn.
The carp are kept to a relatively manageable size in order that fairly light tackle can be used to target mixed bags. Typically the carp run from 3lb to 6lb with the odd bigger fish. Being the greedy fish they are they will be caught on all the normal baits such as meat, pellet, paste, corn, worm, dead maggots or caster.
the large head of big Perch to 4lb that were in Swallow lake were moved to Brook in March 2015. They can be targeted on lobworms or shrimps etcetera and are best targeted in Winter.
The lake has a small head of Bream that are usually in the 2lb - 4lb range and are best targeted away from the features in open water on soft pellet over micro or on the worm and caster.
the lake is popular with pleasure anglers who like a bit of 'old school' fishing that remind them of days on the rivers and canals catching mixed bags of fish. The lake is meant to be something different from the normal commercial in that carp are not the predominant species.
